Fire Prevention Week is October 4-10!

🔋 Lithium-Ion Battery Safety & Recycling

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day—from phones and tablets to toys, power tools, and other household electronics. When these batteries are damaged or disposed of improperly, they can create a fire risk.

Local Household Hazardous Waste Facility

The Weld County South Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Dacono is a local drop-off option for lithium-ion batteries and other household hazardous materials.

Retail Battery Recycling Drop-Offs

Many retailers participate in the Battery Network (formerly Call2Recycle) battery recycling program. Common participating locations include:

  • Home Depot
  • Lowe's
  • Staples
  • Best Buy
  • Batteries Plus

Visit batterynetwork.org to search by ZIP code for a participating drop-off location near you. Many locations accept common rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

Before You Recycle Lithium-Ion Batteries

Help reduce the risk of a battery fire by:

  • Covering battery terminals with clear tape.
  • Placing batteries in a plastic bag or non-conductive container.
  • Never putting lithium-ion batteries in household trash or curbside recycling.

⚠️ Is Your Battery Swollen or Damaged?

Do not place swollen, damaged, or smoking lithium-ion batteries in standard battery collection boxes.

These batteries require special handling. Contact the hazardous waste facility directly for guidance on safe disposal.

Bring the whole family to Frederick-Firestone Fire District's Annual Open House and Pancake Breakfast at Station 1.  Join us for a morning with your local first responders! Enjoy live sprinkler demonstrations, touch-a-truck,  Fire & Life Safety giveaways and more. 

The FFFD Union will be serving up a free, delicious pancake breakfast!

IAFF Local 4123 Raises $29,602 RAISES FOR MDA!

Over Labor Day weekend, members of Frederick-Firestone Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4123 took to intersections throughout our District to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, firefighters collected $29,602—and that total doesn’t even include coins or online donations!

Every donation helps support individuals and families living with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated, shared our campaign, or helped keep our crews safe while they were out collecting.

A special thank you to the members of IAFF Local 4123 for their time and dedication in making this year’s Fill the Boot campaign a success!
