Kristen's Closet- Coming Soon!
Kristen's Closet was inspired by fellow fire departments in Colorado that offer free medical equipment to the communities and residents they serve. The program will open in the fall of 2025 in a small shed owned by the Frederick-Firestone Fire District (FFFD), located directly between FFFD's Administration Building and Station 2 in Frederick.

The story behind the name, Kristen's Closet, is to honor and remember FFFD's Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Specialist, Kristen Hayes, who passed away in February 2025 after a battle with leukemia. Kristen was an inspiration not only in the community but also within the District, due to her passion for risk reduction among the residents in the communities she served. Kristen's passion and work will always be remembered, and Kristen's Closet will be a small mark in doing that. Her love of CRR, her passion, and kindness represent the FFFD as we work toward providing this free service of free medical equipment to the residents within our District.
Safety Corner- Fire Safety in the Kitchen
Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries and the second leading cause of home fire deaths. Take these steps to keep your family and home safe.
- Keep anything that can catch fire (food packages, towels, wooden utensils, oven mitts etc.) away from your stovetop.
- Stay in the kitchen while food is cooking on the stove. If you need to leave the kitchen, turn the burners off.
- Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove.
- Always keep a lid nearby. If a fire starts in the pan, slide the lid over it and turn off the burner. Let the pan cool for an extended period of time. Never throw water on the fire.
- Clean cooking equipment after each use to ensure grease and crumbs don't catch fire.
- Monitor small children and pets.
- Be mindful of loose or baggy clothing.
- Keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
If a fire starts, here are some steps you should take:
- For an oven fire, turn off the heat and keep the oven door closed until the fire is completely out.
- For a grease fire, DO NOT use water. Turn off the heat and cover the pan with a lid or smother it with baking soda or use a fire extinguisher rated for grease fires.
If the fire spreads, leave your home immediately, close the door behind you, and call 911.
