Frederick-Firestone Fire District Receives National Recognition for Budget Excellense

The Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District (FFFD) is proud to announce it has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), a national organization representing public finance professionals across North America.

This prestigious honor recognizes the District’s commitment to excellence in government budgeting and reflects the dedicated work of its governing board and staff in maintaining the highest standards of financial planning and transparency.

“Earning the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award reflects the financial discipline and transparency that the Frederick-Firestone Fire District owes to the residents and businesses we serve,” said FFFD Fire Chief Jeremy Young. “This recognition belongs to our Finance Director Mike Cummins and our entire administrative team, whose commitment to excellence in public financial management ensures that every taxpayer dollar entrusted to us is managed with integrity and clearly accounted for. This award is a reflection of our commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence, not just in how we respond to emergencies, but in how we manage every dollar entrusted to us by our community."

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. Recipients must meet rigorous, nationally recognized guidelines that evaluate how effectively the budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications tool.

Each budget submission must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, as well as in 14 mandatory criteria, in order to earn the award.

With more than 1,900 participants in the GFOA Budget Awards Program, this distinction places the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District among a select group of agencies exemplifying best practices in public-sector budgeting.

To maintain transparency, the Frederick-Firestone Fire District provides comprehensive financial information on its website, including the most current budget, budget message, and third-party audit reports.
