Chief Prunk Sworn In as Deputy Chief
During the District Board Meeting on February 9th, Chief Doug Prunk was officially sworn in and pinned as Deputy Chief. We proudly recognize this well-deserved promotion and congratulate Deputy Chief Prunk on this achievement.

Sound-Off Training
Throughout the month of February, our Fire & Life Safety Educator alongside crews from Frederick-Firestone Fire District lead Sound Off Training with local third-grade classes around the district.
Through the Sound Off Home Fire Safety Patrol program, students and families learn the importance of working smoke alarms, what the different alarm sounds mean, where alarms should be installed, how to identify and fix common home fire hazards, and how to create and practice a fast home fire escape plan.
Sound Off Online provides free, engaging fire safety resources to help prevent home fires, including classroom lessons, family safety materials, and videos in English and Spanish. Visit sound-off-online.com for information and resources.

Join us for a Community Disaster Recovery Workshop
The Carbon Valley Emergency Management Agency (CVEMA) is hosting a free, hands-on Community Disaster Recovery Exercise and Workshop on Thursday, March 26, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Carbon Valley Community Center, 151 Grant Ave, Firestone, CO 80520.

What would life really look like after a tornado, wildfire, or major flood struck our community? That is the question CVEMA invites you to explore.
Your participation strengthens our preparedness.
More Than Just a Meeting
This is not a typical informational session. The workshop is an interactive exercise that puts you in the driver’s seat. Community members will step into realistic roles and navigate the challenges, decisions, and emotions that come with recovery. Nonprofits and local government partners will participate as themselves, offering real-world perspectives and helping identify where coordination works and where gaps may exist.
Participants will use Hummingly’s Cards for Calamity, a tool designed to map lived experiences onto the disaster recovery curve and surface real needs, expectations, and challenges our community could face.
Why Your Voice Matters
Emergency planners can draft plans all day long, but those plans are only as strong as the community input behind them. By participating on March 26, you help shape how Carbon Valley agencies prepare for recovery. You also strengthen the connections between neighbors, nonprofits, and government. Those relationships make all the difference when disaster strikes.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is open to community members, nonprofit and service organizations, and local government employees and first responders. If you live, work, or serve in Carbon Valley, your perspective is valuable.
Community participants will be offered a simple role, such as a resident with home damage or someone affected by service disruptions. Participation is flexible. You may listen, observe, or share what you are comfortable with. No experience is required.
Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
